Keep the padel score from your watch or your earbuds
Your phone, stuck on the glass, shows the score in big numbers for all four players. You score each point from a Bluetooth device you already own, and the umpire calls the score through a speaker. Here is how to set it all up in two minutes.
The setup, step by step
- Pair the speaker and your remote In your phone’s Bluetooth settings, pair the speaker, then your watch, earbuds or remote. Just like for listening to music.
- Open the scorekeeper In Bandeja, on today’s match, tap “Scorekeeper”, pick the match rules, then start it.
- Turn on the umpire and the remote On the match screen, tap the speaker at the top left for the voice umpire, then the remote at the top right. That tap allows sound, which the phone requires.
- Hang the phone on the glass A suction mount at eye level, screen facing the court. The screen stays on while the scorekeeper is open.
- Start the match The umpire announces the start through the speaker. Everyone hears it, nobody looks at their phone.
- Score every point without touching the phone One press on your watch or earbuds: the score changes on the glass, and the umpire calls it.
Which button does what
- Previous : a point for the team on the left
- Next : a point for the team on the right
- Play or pause : undo the last point
On a keyboard or a presentation clicker: left arrow or page up for the left, right arrow or page down for the right, backspace or Esc to undo.
Devices that work
Bandeja reads your phone’s music buttons. Any Bluetooth device that can do “previous”, “next” and “play” becomes a remote. No need to buy anything: you’ve probably got one already.
Works
- A smartwatch Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Wear OS, Garmin… Its “Now Playing” screen shows the score and its three buttons.
- Bluetooth earbuds Usually: one press to undo, two for next, three for previous. Gestures vary by model.
- Bluetooth headphones Their play, previous and next buttons, on the ear cup or on the cable.
- A speaker with buttons The one that talks can keep score too, if it has previous and next buttons.
- A media remote A small Bluetooth remote with play, previous and next buttons, for a few euros.
- A keyboard or a presentation clicker Its arrow keys, or its page up and page down keys.
Doesn’t work
- A one-button selfie remote It mimics the phone’s “volume up” button, which a web page never receives. If yours has play, previous and next buttons, those work.
- A “TikTok” scrolling button It mimics a finger swiping the screen, not music buttons.
Putting the phone on the glass
A windscreen suction mount holds very well on the court glass. A clamp around a post, or a bike mount, works too.
Put it at eye level, in a corner or near the door, where the ball rarely hits. The scorekeeper screen is made to be read from afar: big numbers, one colour per team.
The umpire in the speaker
With Bandeja+, the voice umpire announces the start of the match, the score after every point, the games, the sets, the golden point and match points, like a tournament umpire. The sound comes out of the speaker paired with the phone.
What depends on your phone
- On iPhone and Android alike, the buttons go through the music controls: Bandeja keeps a silent sound playing to receive them. If another app plays music during the match, that app gets the buttons.
- Your phone usually sends sound to one device at a time. If you score with earbuds, the umpire talks in the earbuds: for the speaker, use a watch or a remote instead.
- The screen stays on while the scorekeeper is open, if the browser allows it. Battery saver mode can prevent it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy a remote?
No. A smartwatch, earbuds or Bluetooth headphones are enough: Bandeja uses their music buttons. If you have none of these, a Bluetooth media remote costs a few euros.
Is it free?
The scorekeeper is free, with no limits. The voice umpire and the remote are part of Bandeja+, the app’s paid option. A practice match lets you try everything first.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in the browser, nothing to install: the buttons go through the phone’s music controls. One condition: no other app should play music during the match.
Why doesn’t my selfie remote keep score?
Most have a single button that mimics “volume up”, and a web page never receives it. You need a device with play, previous and next buttons: a watch, earbuds, headphones.
Try it with what you already have
Start a practice match from the Bandeja+ page: three made-up players, nothing is saved. The scorekeeper on its own stays free.
